Resolutions? Pish Posh.

Everyone talks about making a resolution for the new year. I too have done it in the past. Some resolutions lasted a few weeks or months and others perhaps only for half of the day. This year I will not make any. This way every positive change I make is based on the freshness and clean slate of a new year and not on mistakes of years gone by.
This picture is of the end of the day, exciting like the end of a new year. Exciting because it is vibrant and yet one knows it is fleeting. However, tomorrows are even more exciting because they are ever full of promise.

This will be a great year. I just know it. I wish the same for everyone else.

Let's hear it for great art in the future (or at least lots of it) and good times. Good times.

Resolutions? Who need 'em. Pish posh!

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL!

Not Just a One Trick Pony

Yesterday I mentioned that the holidays are a time when I lose focus. Another reason for this can also be the need to shake things up a bit. If an artist doesn't feed herself with inspiration the well runs dry. Sometimes the very things that were inspirational yesterday don't provide a spark today. Part of my job is to constantly awaken my senses. This is not always an easy task.

As a member of EBSQ, I have an opportunity to participate in their monthly internet exhibitions. One theme for the month of January is "The Seven Deadly Sins". This idea did spark my interest. We are all guilty of these. They are as follows: Pride, Envy, Gluttony, Lust, Anger, Greed and Sloth. Pardon me, but Lust seemed to be the most interesting (though gluttony is a daily battle :) ). I decided to work on this idea for part of today's activities. I am trying to challenge my own Western sensibilities of what is ok in the realm of sensuality. I may even risk offending someone with this but then I have to ask myself why would it? So today's image is a 15 minute sketch about the concept of lust. Perhaps it will become a painting someday. Let me know what you think.

So please excuse me for changing up from my regular subjects of animals as seen on my website. Just part of the process.

All Business!

I don't know about other artists but the holidays are a time when I lose focus. I expect it, so I try to remain calm. It isn't easy though because my happiness depends on a day of creating in the studio or out in the field. Is this related to addiction? I don't know and I don't ask.

I'm spending this scattered brain time trying to get "art business" things out of the way. So today was spent doing nothing but working on websites and marketing my work. All business! This is certainly important but it never leaves me with a feeling of accomplishment. I mean...what good is marketing if you haven't created any art to sell?

I am a member of EBSQ and worked on that site today. More work to do there but it is started.

I also started this blog today. I have hopes that this will bring traffic to my website. My main work revolves around pet portrait commissions. Unlike some other artists I love doing them.

I also have been monitoring my eBay auction. The wolf painting is for sale there. I have new auctions every week.

I think that is enough sentences that start with "I" for today. Business...business...business.
